The Sokkia SET5X Reflectorless Total Station is an electronic surveying instrument that measures horizontal angles, vertical angles, and distances to determine the positions of points. Surveyors and construction crews use it for mapping, site measurements, and layout work. Its 5″ rating means five arcseconds of angular accuracy, rather than a measurement of its physical size.

Its reflectorless laser distance-measuring system allows users to measure suitable surfaces without placing a prism at the target. This is useful when surveying building façades, elevated features, or points that are difficult to reach. The specified reflectorless range extends to 500 meters, depending on the surface and conditions.

The SET5X also measures to reflective targets and survey prisms. With one AP prism, its specified range reaches 5,000 meters under average conditions, extending to 6,000 meters under good conditions. Combining angle and distance readings enables coordinate and elevation calculations.

Onboard SDR surveying software supports coordinate measurement, setting out, resection, offset measurement, and area calculations. These functions help users record existing features and position planned points on site. A color touchscreen and illuminated alphanumeric keyboard provide access to measurements and job information.

Built for field use, the SET5X has an IP65-rated enclosure, rechargeable battery power, and data-transfer interfaces for moving results between field and office. Its combination of reflectorless measurement and onboard calculations supports topographic surveys, construction layout, and civil-engineering work.
