FARO Vantage S 3D Laser Tracker
The FARO Vantage S is a portable laser tracker used for precise 3D measurement of large objects and assemblies. It is designed for jobs where a part is too large or difficult to move to a conventional measuring machine, such as inspecting aircraft structures, industrial equipment, molds, or machinery on a production floor.
To measure a point, the Vantage S directs a laser beam at a spherically mounted retroreflector, commonly called an SMR, placed against the object. The tracker follows the target and measures its distance and angles to calculate the point’s 3D coordinates. An operator can move the SMR from point to point to record the shape and position of a part.
The collected measurements can be compared with CAD design data to check whether a part or assembly is in the correct position and within tolerance. This makes the Vantage S useful for dimensional inspection, machine alignment, assembly setup, and verifying large manufactured components.
FARO’s ActiveSeek feature helps the tracker find and reconnect with a moving target. Its RemoteControls workflow also lets an operator control tracker movement and view a live video feed from a phone or tablet, making single-person measurement work more practical across a large area.
The Vantage S is the longer-range model in FARO’s Vantage S and E pair. With specified FARO 1.5-inch SMRs, it can measure at distances up to 80 meters under the stated conditions. Its portable, battery-powered design allows high-accuracy measurements to be taken where the work is being built or installed.
