Carlson Scan2k Terrestrial 3D Laser Scanner

The Carlson Scan2K Terrestrial 3D Laser Scanner is a ground-based surveying instrument that captures detailed three-dimensional measurements of terrain, structures, and surrounding objects. It creates point clouds—collections of measured points that digitally represent the scanned environment—for surveying, engineering, construction, and mining work.

The Scan2K uses pulsed laser measurements and offers selectable short-, medium-, and long-range modes. Its maximum advertised range reaches 2,000 meters under specified conditions, although actual range depends on surface reflectivity, visibility, and scanning settings. This flexibility allows users to balance measurement distance and collection speed.

Operators control the scanner through a sunlight-visible color touchscreen, selecting scan density and adjusting horizontal and vertical coverage. Its field of view extends up to 360 degrees horizontally and 120 degrees vertically, allowing broad coverage from one setup.

Integrated cameras, inclinometers, a digital compass, and an L1 GNSS receiver support imagery collection, orientation, and referencing. Internal storage holds scan data for transfer to a computer, while hot-swappable batteries support field operation.

Using compatible processing software, users can inspect scans, combine datasets, and develop terrain models, contours, profiles, sections, and other deliverables. The Scan2K helps turn physical site conditions into measurable digital information for planning, documentation, and analysis.

Features:

  • Long-range scanning up to 2,000 meters, depending on surface reflectivity and atmospheric conditions.
  • Selectable short-, medium-, and long-range modes.
  • Pulsed laser measurement using a 1550 nm near-infrared laser.
  • Class 1 laser classification.
  • Laser pulse rates up to 500 kHz, recording up to four returns per pulse.
  • Range accuracy of 5 mm at 100 meters, specified at one standard deviation.
  • 360° horizontal and 120° vertical scanning coverage.
  • Adjustable scan density, from extra coarse to extra fine.
  • Sunlight-visible color touchscreen with menu-driven controls.
  • Integrated cameras producing an 80-megapixel panoramic image.
  • Built-in L1 GPS/GLONASS receiver, digital compass, and dual-axis inclinometer.
  • External GNSS support, including an antenna mount.
